戴维（德克·本内迪克特 Dirk Benedict 饰）是一名单纯的大学生，被蛇学家斯通纳（斯特罗瑟·马丁 Strother Martin 饰）相中，成为了他的助手。之后，戴维得知，斯通纳的前任助手莫名失踪了。为了防止戴维被蛇咬伤中毒，斯通纳在戴维开始他的助理生涯之前，为他注射了神秘的血清，对此戴维并无存疑。
斯通纳有一个美丽的女儿名叫克里斯蒂娜（希瑟·孟席斯·乌尔里希 Heather Menzies-Urich 饰），在朝夕相处之间，两个年轻人相爱了。在戴维的身上，渐渐出现了许多奇怪的生理反应，斯通纳安慰他说这只是正常的疫苗副作用而已。一天，戴维在一场畸形秀上看到了半人半蛇的蛇人，他的躯体变化，和戴维身上所发生的变化竟然惊人的相似。
