一直以来，汤姆（迈克尔·道格拉斯 Michael Douglas 饰）都勤勤恳恳的在岗位上工作着，他的目的没有别的，就是希望能够升职成为副总裁。就在汤姆的目标就要达成之时，凭空杀出的美女美迪（黛咪·摩尔 Demi Moore 饰）让他的梦想成为了泡影，这个女人不仅夺走了副总裁的职位，还成为了汤姆的上司。然而，更让汤姆感到尴尬的是，这个美迪不是别人，正是自己的旧情人。
